Frequently asked questions

Do you charge for a consultation?

During a consultation with Bill, you will be provided with meaningful insight into your legal situation; not just a brief overview. During the meeting, you’ll have the opportunity to review the facts of your case, have your questions answered, and outline potential next steps or strategies. Because every legal issue is unique, this time is an investment in understanding your circumstances and determining the best way forward.

Generally, consultations are fee-based to ensure you receive dedicated, personalized attention. We encourage you to contact the office to discuss your case and learn what to expect before scheduling your consultation.

What about out-of-pocket fees?

Legal matters often involve a range of expenses beyond attorney time, such as filing fees, court costs, or document recording charges. During your consultation, you’ll receive a clear explanation of any potential out-of-pocket costs associated with your case.
Bill’s goal is to help you make informed decisions with confidence, so you’ll never encounter unexpected charges. Whenever possible, Bill provides estimates or fixed fees for common services and keeps you updated if additional costs arise throughout your representation.

Who will work on my case?

Bill Blackford personally oversees every matter from start to finish, ensuring that each client receives his direct attention and legal insight. Your case won’t be handed off to a large team or lost in layers of staff. You’ll also work closely with Bill’s experienced paralegal, who assists with document preparation, scheduling, and communication so everything progresses efficiently and smoothly. Together, they offer the responsiveness of a small firm with the thoroughness and professionalism of a larger practice.

Does it matter how long I wait to file a lawsuit?

Yes. The amount of time you have to file a lawsuit, known as the statute of limitations, varies depending on the type of case. Waiting too long can limit your options or even prevent you from achieving legal solutions altogether. Beyond the legal deadlines, delaying can also make it harder to gather evidence, locate witnesses, or preserve important records. If you believe you have a claim, it’s best to speak with an attorney as soon as possible to understand your rights and deadlines. Early legal guidance can make a significant difference in building a strong case and protecting your ability to recover damages or seek justice. Contact the office to discuss your case and learn more about Bill’s services.

How much can I expect to win?

Every case is different, and the potential recovery depends on a number of factors, including, but not limited to the facts of your case, the type of claim, available evidence, and applicable Maryland law. Some matters involve compensatory damages for financial losses, while others may include recovery for emotional distress, property damage, or other harm.

Because no two situations are alike, it’s impossible to guarantee a specific outcome. What you can expect is a clear, honest assessment of your case from the start. During your consultation, Bill will review the details of your situation, explain the factors that may affect your potential recovery, and help you understand what a fair and realistic resolution could look like.
